Copeland Mill Dental announced today that it will sponsor “Give Kids a Smile Day,” in conjunction with the American Dental Association (ADA). The goal of the initiative, which takes place Oct. 11, is the elimination of cavities in five-year-olds in the U.S. by 2020.

“Laying the foundation for good dental health starts with young children, which is why Copeland Mill Dental is excited to work with the ADA on this important initiative,” said Dr. Karyn White, DDS. “Learning healthy habits now can truly help kids take better care of their teeth throughout their lifetime.”

More than 10 years ago the ADA launched Give Kids A Smile with these four objectives in mind:

  •     To demonstrate dentistry’s commitment to addressing access to care;
  •     To raise awareness of the high level of oral disease suffered by children primarily from low income families;
  •     To enable volunteer dental teams across the country to provide free dental care, screenings and education to children in need; and
  •     To urge policymakers to increase funding for children’s oral health.

Copeland Mill Dental offers families comprehensive dental care with a focus on overall health, as the mouth is the gateway into the health of the body. Evidence has linked oral health, gum disease in particular, to several chronic diseases, including diabetes, heart disease, liver and pancreatic cancer, and stroke. A healthy mouth can help prevent these conditions, so regular visits to the dentist are important to maintain good health and vitality.
