Football Star Seeks Professional Help for Alcohol Abuse
Miami, Florida (PRWEB) September 28, 2013 -- According to ESPN.com (9/24) in their news story, Aldon Smith Admitted Into Rehab, that after admitting he has an alcohol dependency, San Francisco 49ers Aldon Smith has checked into a treatment facility. A source told ESPN that Smith's top priority should be his recovery, not his return to the 49ers.
"The only timetable on this is him getting well," the source said. "I know football fans don't care about this, but he's 23 years old and he has a full life beyond football. How he recovers from this can literally be the difference between life and death."
Twice, Smith has been arrested twice for suspicion of driving under the influence. Following his first DUI, he received alcohol abuse counseling.
The National Football League Players Union is closely monitoring the situation with Smith. The union wants the player to achieve a full recovery and doesn't want his return date to football action to determine when he will be finished with treatment.
"It's not like he's going to be magically cured in a month," a source close to Smith told ESPN. "If his problem is serious enough, a month might not be enough."
