We had lived in Lombard for 31 years, and we looked at 12 different communities all around our area and even in different states. We felt that Beacon Hill was the best of the best. I’ve been here for eight years now, and I still feel the same way.
Lombard, IL (PRWEB) September 24, 2013
Beacon Hill was recently recognized with a 5-star rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) for 2013. The Lombard senior living community has earned a perfect score every year since the ratings began in 2008.
Beacon Hill’s Health Center, which served 297 older adults from July 2012 to July 2013, when the recent survey was conducted, is one of only 10 senior living communities in the state to be both CARF-CCAC-accredited and to have a 5-star Medicare rating. CMS rates senior living communities’ Health Centers on multiple factors, including resident satisfaction surveys and staffing.
“Our low staff turnover is one of the reasons we’re able to consistently achieve such high scores on our Medicare ratings and resident surveys,” said Heidi Zimmermann, administrator for Beacon Hill’s Health Center. “Having consistent staff is comforting for our residents and their families, and we see that in the surveys and through the 5-star ratings we’ve received. From what I’ve seen around the state, it’s very rare to hold this distinction for so long.”
Appreciation of the community’s Health Center was felt by residents long before it was recognized by CMS each year. Marilyn McNeil has lived at Beacon Hill for eight years, and says when she and her husband chose the community, health services were among the top factors impacting their decision.
“We had lived in Lombard for 31 years, and we looked at 12 different communities all around our area and even in different states. We felt that Beacon Hill was the best of the best,” McNeil said. “I’ve been here for eight years now, and I still feel the same way.”
Marilyn’s husband, Bill, spent six weeks in the community’s Health Center, and the couple felt the staff and services more than fit their needs. With the Health Center on site at the community, Marilyn was able to continue living in their independent living apartment and visit Bill whenever she wanted, even in the middle of the night.
“There was one night when he was sick that I woke up in the middle of the night and felt like I really needed to see him,” McNeil said. “So I walked through the lobby in my slippers and went into his room in the Health Center and I saw him sleeping soundly. Just knowing that he was okay and that I was able to go and see him helped me sleep through the night.”
