First Annual Faceplant Boardriders/WheelRZ 'Rip the ElWood' is a Huge Success
Landenberg, PA USA (PRWEB) September 27, 2013 -- On Saturday, September 7th, Faceplant Boardriders and WheelRZ with the cooperation of Elwood L. Crossan Park in Landenberg, PA put on the first annual ‘Rip the ElWood’ longboarding event. The Rip the ElWood was a longboarding event that showcased 2 different disciplines of longboard skateboarding. This event allowed riders to test their skills on a very technical downhill course and also compete in a slide jam that was littered with features such as rails and different types of wooden kickers.
The first riding discipline was the Downhill. The course was a winding bike/walking path with plenty of turns. Because of the course being so small, it was run as time trials so riders not only could test their skills against other riders, but also try to better their personal times. It was a fun event to watch as riders were pushing their limits and as with any good downhill race, their were some epic wipeouts into the haybails on a few hard turns. Downhill Results were as follows:
Under 18: 1st-Andrew Collins, 2nd-Conner Reilly, 3rd-Alex Tumolo
18 & Over: 1st-Brian Fitch, 2nd-Byron Idrovo, 3rd-Kardon Allard
OPEN: 1st-Matt English, 2nd-Ryan Yearsley, 3rd-Ian Cooke
The second riding discipline was the slide jam. The course is on a mellow, straight slope with features from Faceplant Boardriders, WheelRZ Wheels, and especially Red Bull. Red Bull kicked in expenses to build a ‘Red Bull X Faceplant Kicker’ for the Event, and the finals wee certainly based around competitors going big on the kicker. Slide Results were as follows:
Under 18: 1st-Nolan Kramer, 2nd-Conner Reilly, 3rd-Ryan Barrow
OPEN: 1st-Andrew Collins, 2nd-Dax Pradarits, 3rd- Kardon Allard
Along with the hosts, Faceplant Boardriders and WheelRZ, ‘Rip the ElWood’ had a lot of great sponsors that helped put this event on. Local skate shops such as LoweRiders of Downingtown, PA, Switch Skate and Snow, The Ski Bum of Newark, DE, and Wavedancer from MD all helped support the event while Prima’s Pizza was on site vending pizzas. Original Skateboards donated some money and prizes to help the event go on along with Stoked Skateboards, Phat Deanz, and Shred Threads. Red Bull was also a huge contributor with the kickers and plenty of Red Bull. West Grove EMT was on site all day just in case anyone had a injury, and with boardsports, injuries are bound to happen.
All of the riders left ‘Rip the ElWood’ stoked. Everyone had an amazing time from the riders to the spectators. Faceplant Boardriders and WheelRZ Owner Rob Wheeler organized the whole event and made it a stellar one with the help of TULBC’s own Matt Smith. The park officials were extremely happy with how well the event went and have already offered the use of the park for next year’s ‘Rip the ElWood 2’ set to be the same weekend in September.
Faceplant Boardriders and WheelRZ will be hosting their Second Annual Skate the Cape Shred Festival at Cape Henlopen State Park in DE coming up on November 10-11. This year it is set to be a two day Shred Festival with 4 different longboarding disciplines to compete in.
