Cardiff (PRWEB UK) 26 September 2013 -- On Sunday 15th September, over 50 employees from across the PHS Group dusted off their trainers to take part in the National Forest 10k run, as part of a wider fundraising effort within the company.
Runners travelled from all over the UK to take part in the event, including Glasgow, South Wales, Kent and Sussex. Ranging in age and experience, the PHS team was made up of a mix of seasoned runners and complete beginners.
As part of its 50th anniversary celebrations, the team has pledged to raise £10,000 for official charity partner Together for Short Lives, a leading UK charity for all children with life-threatening and life-limiting conditions.
PHS Direct, the workplace consumables division of the Group, has always had a team at the National Forest 10k run since its inauguration in 2010, and was delighted to see people from all other areas of PHS take part.
James Clark, Managing Director of PHS Direct, said: “PHS Direct already supports the National Forest by making a donation for every box of paper sold, and through this has planted around 20,000 trees in the forest.
“With PHS recently celebrating 50 years in business, it made sense to link the annual 10k run with our birthday and get 50 runners fundraising for our charity partner.
“In the end, the idea was so well received across the Group that we managed to form a team of 51 people from all areas of PHS, who each wore a branded shirt raising the profile of Together for Short Lives.”
Covering 6.21 miles, the scenic 10k run travelled through mature and young woodland planted as part of the National Forest. Among the runners were some notable faces, including James Clark himself, Technical Director Mike Johns, and Training Director Chris Lodge.
Fastest of the male PHS employees was Gareth Lawrence from the IT department, who came in 14th place overall with an impressive time of 39:52. The fastest woman was Caz Posser, also from the IT department, who completed the run in 51:23.
