Provost Academy South Carolina teacher Cindy Stockman has been named "Social Studies Teacher of the Year." The South Carolina Council for Social Studies selected Stockman for the statewide recognition, which is awarded to one exemplary teacher each year.

The South Carolina Council for Social Studies selected Stockman from several quality applicants. "We are pleased to have such a dedicated and exemplary teacher represent our organization for Teacher of the Year," said Social Carolina Council for Social Studies President-Elect Leslie Carter. "A SCCSS Teacher of the Year must demonstrate dedication to instruction and development, being a life long learner, while building students who are citizens of the world. Ms. Stockman is a leader within her school and will represent the state well as SCCSS Teacher of the Year. "

"I was deeply humbled and ecstatic that I won," said Stockman. "I was dying to tell my parents and some friends. I did not want to text my mom and dad with the news, as I wanted to ring them and let them know. I was so excited to tell someone, so the first person I sent a text to was Britt Collins, my teaching partner for British Cultural Studies...and one of my biggest champions!"

Stockman resides in Spartanburg and has been an educator for 20 years, teaching at all levels from elementary school through college. She has been at PASC for four years where she teaches American History, British Cultural Studies and Greek Mythology.

"We are very proud of Ms. Stockman for this achievement," said Stephanie Cagle, Interim Executive Director at PASC. "She is very deserving of this award! We here at the school were already well aware of her dedication to inspire students to love learning. Ms.Stockman is very enthusiastic about social studies and that enthusiasm carries over to our students."

Stockman credits PASC for giving her the opportunity to create "unique and engaging classes" for her students.
