Doyle Raizner Attorney Presenting Pradaxa MDL Update at AAJ Seminar
Houston, TX (PRWEB) September 27, 2013 -- Doyle Raizner LLP partner Michael Patrick Doyle is speaking at American Association for Justice’ (AAJ) Pharmaceutical and Medical Device Ligation Update in Philadelphia. The CLE opportunity is exclusively for plaintiff trial lawyers.
Doyle is presenting updates on the current state of litigation against the Boehringer Ingelheim drug Pradaxa. The makers of Pradaxa are accused of alleged negligence, aggressive marketing tactics and other charges due to the number of fatalities and serious injuries linked to the drug. Pradaxa is an anticoagulant prescribed for patients with atrial fibrillation. The issue with Pradaxa allegedly lies in the lack of antidote and the inability to reverse the drug’s side effects of uncontrolled bleeding (Master Case File 3:12-md-02385-DRH-SCW Southern District of Illinois).
Litigation has been centralized in the Southern District of Illinois before Chief Judge David R Herndon. Judge Herndon has experience with large multidistrict pharmaceutical litigation. There are currently 1,488 cases filed in the MDL (MDL 2385).
“The current state of this litigation is important for plaintiff attorneys due to future ramifications. This is a drug the FDA not only approved but also fast tracked. It remains to be seen if it will remain a viable alternative to more established and safer medications,” Doyle said.
