AFP Urges Senate to Continue Current Spending Levels
Arlington, VA (PRWEB) September 26, 2013 -- Americans for Prosperity, the nation’s largest free-market grassroots organization, is calling on Senate lawmakers to oppose any continuing resolution that exceeds $967 billion. In a key vote alert released on Thursday, AFP President Tim Phillips voiced AFP’s opposition to exceed the agreed-upon spending limits for fiscal year 2014 by nearly $20 Billion this year.
“This is a critical moment in the fight to get federal spending under control,” said Phillips. “The sequester mechanism is in place to remind both Congress and the President that they have already agreed what fiscal year 2014’s spending levels will be.”

The Budget Control Act of 2011 (BCA), as modified by subsequent fiscal legislation, established a discretionary spending cap for fiscal year 2014 of $967 billion. The proposed continuing resolution before the Senate represents a spending increase relative to the BCA caps by establishing a discretionary budget authority of $986 billion. AFP opposes legislation that raises discretionary spending without offsetting the increase with other spending cuts.
