artnet Auctions Presents: LONGO
New York/Berlin (PRWEB) September 27, 2013 -- artnet Auctions is pleased to feature LONGO, an auction of exceptional works by artist Robert Longo (American, b.1953). The sale will feature a selection of drawings, sculptures, prints, and photographs reflecting the scope and range of the artist’s career from the early 1980s to the present. The works in the sale have estimates ranging from US$1,000 to 40,000.
The sale will feature a handsome boxed portfolio of prints belonging to Longo’s iconic Men in the Cities series, which portrays formally dressed men and women caught mid-motion in contorted poses. Estimated at US$25,000–30,000, the portfolio includes five three-color lithographs, hand-signed by the artist and belonging to an edition of 48 published by the Seibu Department Stores, Tokyo in 1990.
The sale will also feature two important early sculptures, both rare to auction: House Divided (Maquette) and The Silence. Estimated at US$30,000–40,000, House Divided (Maquette) is a Minimalist work composed of red wool felt, aluminum-coated wood, and stainless steel, created by the artist between 1989 and 1991. The Silence, estimated at US$12,000–15,000, is a Figurative sculpture composed of burgundy lacquer on plaster, and was created between 1979 and 1980.
Another highlight of the sale is Untitled (Thunder Road), a monumental digital pigment print from the artist’s Monsters series. Estimated at US$10,000–12,000, Untitled (Thunder Road) presents a sublime monochromatic image of a cresting tidal wave, and shows the artist harnessing the clarity and precision of the digital printmaking process to craft a large-scale vision of nature’s power.
LONGO will be live on artnet Auctions from September 26 through October 3, 2013, and is on view at http://www.artnet.com/auctions/search/?q=keyword-longo_2013/.
