Excargo Services Named Outstanding Corporate Citizen
Houston, TX (PRWEB) September 30, 2013 -- Excargo Services, a Houston-based intermodal services provider, received the 2013 Outstanding Corporate Citizen award from the Houston East End Chamber of Commerce Thursday, September 12. The award was presented during the Chamber’s 2013 event, A Toast to the East End, which recognized 10 area businesses for outstanding contributions to Houston’s East End community.
The Outstanding Corporate Citizen award is presented annually to an individual, company, or organization that has contributed significantly to employment, capital investment or other activities beyond normal business operation.
“We salute Excargo’s president Marcia Faschingbauer and thank her and her staff for their continuous support of many non-profit organizations and for the great retention, safety and reward programs they offer their employees,” said Frances Castañeda Dyess, President of Houston East End Chamber of Commerce. “Our annual awards are meant to honor our area businesses that are going above and beyond to increase the viability of the community.”
“Excargo’s recent contribution to Chavez High School was a special example of that effort,” said Dyess. Working with sport’s retailer Luke’s Locker, Faschingbauer created a sponsorship that supplied free tennis shoes and clothing to Chavez students as part of a marathon training program. Luke’s Locker has remained a partner in the sponsorship, and the program will continue to grow this year.
“It is such an honor to receive this award from the Houston East End Chamber of Commerce,” said Faschingbauer. “Many of our drivers and employees call Houston’s East End home, so it’s very important for us to invest as much as we can in our community.”
For Excargo, education is at the forefront of that community investment. The company regularly donates laptops to Chavez High School and supports continuing education assistance for its own employees through a college tuition and book reimbursement program.
Outstanding environmental and safety programs also played a part in the Chamber’s decision to recognize Excargo this year. The company’s “cash for clunkers” program has helped drivers obtain grants to replace their old trucks and purchase newer, more environmentally friendly trucks. In addition, Excargo hosted a private truck fair, open to all truck drivers, that focused outside resources on reducing the transportation industry’s carbon footprint – it was first event of its kind in Houston.
The Houston East End Chamber of Commerce celebration, A Toast to the East End, was held at the Houston Marriott at Hobby Airport and attracted close to 500 attendees.
