Vice President of IPS Testing to Present on Recycling & Repulpability at Packaging Conference in October
Appleton, WI (PRWEB) September 30, 2013 -- An event sponsor of Focal Point 2013: Frontiers in Packaging, IPS Testing of Appleton, Wisconsin, will be among the companies to present at the industry conference on October 22 at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
Chris Reitmeyer, vice president of IPS Testing, will team up with Paul Fowler, executive director of the Wisconsin Institute for Sustainable Technology (WIST), for a joint session. The two will present, "Evidencing marketing claims and differentiating product through recyclability, repulpability & compostability testing."
IPS Testing and WIST are among just four labs certified by the Fibre Box Association to perform the Voluntary Standard for Repulping and Recycling Corrugated Fiberboard. IPS Testing houses the lab facilities while WIST has an on-site pulping and papermaking plant and has developed a compostability testing protocol to evaluate materials according to ASTM D6400 and D6868 standards. The companies work in partnership to provide a wide range of testing services to the pulp and paper industry.
Reitmeyer explained the conference as a great learning opportunity for all businesses in the packaging industry, including those focused on product stewardship and sustainability. "We’ve learned a lot about what it takes to develop sustainable packaging materials through our hands-on testing," he said. "We’re excited to be a part of Focal Point 2013 and share this knowledge with attendees."
Focal Point 2013 will target opportunities and challenges for the packaging and converting industries in the Midwest. The event will address manufacturing, converting, end-use, and regulatory concerns in flexible and rigid plastics, paper board and specialty paper.
It will feature presentations on the latest developments in compostable packaging; an overview of recent regulations on packaging for food contact; extended producer responsibility; current developments in plastic packaging; and alternative end-of-life management options such as anaerobic digestion.
