Association of Independent Information Professionals Members Speak at Conferences in San Diego, CA and London, UK

AIIP members provide professional insights as presenters at national, international conferences for information professionals for SLA and ILI.

Five members of the Association of Independent Information Professionals (AIIP, will be presenting and/or moderating sessions at two prestigious conferences that draw library professionals from around the world. These AIIP members include: Scott Brown, Deb Hunt, Ulla de Stricker, Cindy Shamel and Arthur Weiss.

Special Libraries Association, San Diego Chapter

The Special Libraries Association’s San Diego Chapter Fall Seminar is one of the region’s largest and longest standing professional development opportunities for information professionals. This year's seminar, which will be held on Friday, Oct. 4 in San Diego, features a session on how knowledge audits inform strategic planning by Cindy Shamel, MLS, president of Shamel Information Services (; and a session on video information delivery at Qualcomm by Scott Brown, MA, MLIS, manager of Library Services for Qualcomm, Inc. Both Shamel and Brown are past presidents of AIIP.

"Among information professionals, AIIP members represent an entrepreneurial and cross functional point of view," Shamel explains. "AIIP members work across a wide range of enterprises and, as a result, have unique insights on trends, practices and solutions for managing knowledge and information."

Internet Librarian International

Internet Librarian International (ILI) provides information and learning opportunities on the latest trends in technology and innovation for information professionals from all around the world. Held on Oct. 15 and 16 in London, UK, AIIP members presenting or moderating sessions and workshops on a variety of information-related topics include:

Sessions the AIIP members will host or speak at include such topics as online searching techniques; the use of virtual services, technology and social tools in libraries; career prospects for librarians; and much more. Ojala, de Stricker and Hunt all have served on the AIIP board of directors. AIIP is a supporter of the ILI annual conference.

"ILI provides attendees with a unique opportunity to learn about and discuss the trends affecting information professionals no matter where they work and no matter what their subspecialties are," notes de Stricker. "The varied and international perspectives are highly relevant for me as an independent and keep me abreast of the wide range of developments affecting my clients."
