The Captain James Corrigan Memorial Foundation Announces Recipients for 2013
Rockville Centre, NY (PRWEB) September 30, 2013 -- The Captain James Corrigan Memorial Foundation (CJCMF) will be holding its third annual fundraiser October 12, 2013. The fundraiser, which will be held at The Bungalow Bar in Rockaway Beach from 2-6 pm, will raise funds to be distributed to two families here in the NYC area who are coping with the devastating illnesses of a child. The goal of CJCMF is to continue Captain James Corrigan’s heroic work from 9/11. He loved children and is largely responsible for the safe evacuation of the WTC daycare facility before sadly losing his life that day in the South Tower.
“We are thrilled to be able to help two families in need,” said Brendan Corrigan, a founder of the CJCMF. “Our mission is to help children with life threatening diseases and honor my dad’s memory by carrying on his legacy of helping others.”
Traditionally the foundation has chosen one FDNY family to help, as well as one civilian family in need. Jack Foley, aged two, is the nephew of fallen 9/11 firefighter Michael Kiefer. Jack was diagnosed with a severe and often fatal congenital heart defect called Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. He had his first open heart surgery at 4 days old and his second at 4 1/2 months old. He will have his third surgery sometime before his third birthday. His family has nick-named him "Super Jack."
The non-FDNY child is Fay McKeveny, who hails from Staten Island. Fay was diagnosed with Leukemia on November 21, 2012. At the time she was an active 12 year old who loved gymnastics, playing the violin, going to school and having fun with her family and friends. Now, Fay is unable to do any of those things due to intense chemotherapy treatments leaving her weak and vulnerable to infection. Fay is now 13 and hoping to be able to join her 8th grade class in January 2014. She will be undergoing treatments until January 2015. Fay's strength and attitude have been inspirational to her family.
The Captain James Corrigan Memorial Foundation’s annual fundraiser will be Saturday, October 12, 2013. The fundraiser is in Rockaway Beach at Bungalow Bar (377 Beach 92nd street) from 2-6 pm. $50 admission includes food, live music and open bar.
