Michigan Couple Treks Cross-Country to Route 66 Cruisin' Reunion
Ontario, CA (PRWEB) September 03, 2013 -- Many have dreamed of cruising the historical Route 66 from start to finish, it’s nearly 2500 miles long winding through the heart of America. However, most are not lucky enough to do so but Zeeland, Michigan resident Sid Scheerhorn is fulfilling that dream this fall as he and his wife embark on what is guaranteed to be a magical journey as they drive their vintage 1929 Tudor to California, with their final stop being in Ontario, California for the inaugural Route 66 Cruisin’ Reunion® car show.
After purchasing the 1929 Ford in 2000, Sid’s restoring plans were put on hold as other life events took precedent. But in 2006 he began the arduous task of restoring this beauty, and, seven years later; it is ready for its longest journey ever. Sid and his wife of 46 years, Rose, will begin a trip of a lifetime this month as they drive the famous Route 66, west toward California.
In keeping with tradition, they begin their journey, in earnest, from Lou Mitchell’s Restaurant & Bakery in Chicago, the beginning of Route 66. From there, the couple will meander Route 66 with planned stops in Springfield, St. Louis and Albuquerque and of course the final stretch of Route 66, in Santa Monica.
After they dip their toes in the Pacific Ocean, they will then join others at the Route 66 Cruisin’ Reunion in Ontario, CA. As members of the National Street Rod Association, they will join other enthusiasts at this classic car rally that will feature three days of classic cars, cruising, contests, live entertainment, fabulous food and revelry to make it one of the nation’s most extended, long-playing events of its kind. Vintage autos and car hobbyists will line Ontario’s tree-shaded Euclid Avenue.
