National Association of Professional Women Announces Elizabeth C. Abel, M.S.W., Project Director, CAPP of City of Mount Vernon-Youth Bureau, as VIP Woman of the Year

Abel, M.S.W. is the Project Director, Comprehensive Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Program (CAPP) at City of Mount Vernon-Youth Bureau, which specializes in human services. Ms. Abel has attained the highest level of membership to the National Association of Professional Women as a VIP Woman of the Year and has been recognized for outstanding leadership and commitment within her profession.
The City of Mount Vernon-Youth Bureau is the lead municipal agency that provides positive youth development services to youth ages 6-21. The City of Mount Vernon-Youth Bureau supports generations of youth and families by developing and implementing safe, high-quality programs that promote the physical, emotional and social well-being of the city’s young people.
Ms. Abel has been with the City of Mount Vernon-Youth Bureau for four years and has been responsible for managing and directing a program that helps to empower, educate and prepare Mount Vernon’s youth and families to make healthy decisions that will lead to eventual self-sufficiency and lifelong success. Her extensive experience includes youth services, life coaching, community-based programming, sexuality and adolescent development programs that she has made available for the residents of Mount Vernon and its surrounding towns.
Under Ms. Abel’s excellent direction the bureau has become a viable community organization committed to ongoing evaluation and community mobilization while strengthening the population it serves. Ms. Abel is currently working on her second master’s degree in divinity at Drew University, which will be completed in 2015.
