The report takes a closer look at the growth of the ACO movement by a more precise indicator, beneficiary lives.
Salt Lake City, UT (PRWEB) December 19, 2013
Drawing from an ongoing study by Leavitt Partners, The Center for Accountable Care Intelligence has released Geographic Distribution of ACO Covered Lives, building upon the acclaimed white paper series: Growth and Dispersion of Accountable Care Organizations.
The report takes a closer look at the growth of the ACO movement by a more precise indicator, beneficiary lives. In the paper, Leavitt Partners estimates the percentage of lives that are covered by public and private ACOs in different regions of the United States.
Analysis of the current accountable care landscape highlights three significant findings:
1) Although ACOs are widely dispersed, ACO penetration is not homogenous. The majority of states have an ACO penetration of between 1% and 10%.
2) Although the growth rate of ACOs has slowed, accountable care contracts continue to be added and more lives are being covered by ACOs.
3) The history of managed care within a given region and the size of systems participating in accountable care weigh heavily on the distribution of covered lives.
