Teenagers and young adults are calling TheHopeLine, text messaging TheHopeLine and chatting on-line with TheHopeLine requesting help and assistance with a cadre of life issues. These issues range in the level of crisis from relationship problems to thoughts of suicide and self-harm. "We needed a partner, not a vendor. We needed an organization that was interested in coming along side us, willing to understand our ministry, the problems we face and the needs we have. TheHopeLine's custom interactive voice response (IVR) system allows callers to be routed quickly. Callers select one of three options, once the call is answered. First, they are directed to a HopeCoach that will help them with the specific issue they called in to discuss. Here they will be listened to, offered clear thinking and right values from a biblical perspective, given tangible resources to help them and/or partner referrals to organizations specializing in the issue with which they are struggling. Or, they can be directed to the live on-air radio show to discuss the issue with TheHopeLine's founder Dawson McAllister. Finally, if they wish, they can leave a comment or question for the ministry staff to respond to at a later time.
