Northern Hotel Receives Historic Preservation Excellence Award
Billings, MT (PRWEB) October 21, 2013 -- The Northern Hotel today announced it will receive a 2013 Historic Preservation Excellence Award from the Montana Preservation Alliance (MPA). The award is given to individuals who display creative vision and tireless efforts to keep Montana history alive. The Northern Hotel was recognized as an outstanding commercial renovation project.
“It’s an honor to be acknowledged for bringing the Northern back to life in Billings,” said Mike Nelson, president and co-owner of the Northern Hotel. “Despite the many road blocks along the way, our dream of restoring the hotel and preserving its history has not only been realized but has exceeded our expectations. Please join us in celebrating our achievements and those of our fellow honorees.”
The awards ceremony will take place during the MPA Annual Meeting on Thursday, October 24, 2013 at 5:30 pm at the Northern Hotel in downtown Billings. Hors d'oeuvres and no-host refreshments will be served. The event is free and open to the public.
The MPA’s mission is to save and protect Montana’s historic places, traditional landscapes and cultural heritage. Restoration of the Northern Hotel included a focus on giving Billings back its most modern hotel with 4-star amenities and service, while preserving its unique history. Owners Mike and Chris Nelson hired Langlas & Associates, also being honored by the MPA, to redo the 160-room hotel, including two restaurants and a catering kitchen. The hotel re-opened in March and has since hosted numerous weddings, conferences, meetings and luncheons continuing the tradition of the Northern as the go-to place for events. The Northern has also been listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
