Sea Colony Tennis Director Thomas Johnston Elected to USTA Delaware District Board of Directors
Bethany Beach, DE (PRWEB) January 10, 2014 -- Sea Colony Tennis Director Thomas Johnston was elected to a two-year term on the United States Tennis Association (USTA) Delaware District Board of Directors at the December 9, 2013 meeting of the Board.
Johnston joins an elite group of tennis supporters who are committed to building an inclusive and diverse array of opportunities for all players to enjoy the sport of tennis. As the governing body of tennis for the State of Delaware, the Delaware District is part of the USTA Middle States Section.
With encouragement from the community, Johnston has secured numerous USTA tournaments hosted by Sea Colony, including Junior Tennis tournaments, which increased from two to eight. In addition, Sea Colony hosts numerous “Play Days” and a variety of clinics for both recreational and competitive players. These program embrace the USTA Middle States mission to promote and develop the growth of tennis, focusing on establishing competitive, developmental, educational and recreational programs while promoting health, character, high standards of fair play, sportsmanship and social responsibility.
Under Johnston’s four-year tenure, Sea Colony Tennis has offered a wide range of camps, clinics and private instruction to tennis players of all ages and skill levels. Overall junior and adult participation has increased more than 30% and the facility has hosted three sold-out Nike Junior Camps.
Sea Colony features 34 tennis courts, including six indoor, 14 outdoor hard courts and 14 clay courts, and an experienced, talented group of teaching professionals.
Selected as a 2012 USTA Outstanding Facility of the Year, Sea Colony has earned additional national and global honors, including being named a 2013 Top 50 resort and the No. 15 tennis camp in the world, as well as No. 2 for best junior programs, by Tennis Resorts Online.com, an electronic publication whose annual rankings are determined by tennis players. Sea Colony was also listed among Tennis magazine’s Top 50 American Resorts in 2012, including No. 3 in the Mid-Atlantic region.
