Tidewater Physical Therapy’s Renee Midgett Earns Doctorate of Physical Therapy
Newport News, Va. (PRWEB) January 02, 2014 -- Renee Midgett, Clinical Director of the Tidewater Physical Therapy (TPTI) Battlefield Clinic in Chesapeake, earned a Doctorate of Physical Therapy (DPT) from Shenandoah University in Winchester, Va., announced the Southeast and Central Virginia-based independent physical therapy practice.
Midgett has treated patients for 25 years, specializing in orthopedics and sports medicine, as well as general treatment of musculoskeletal diagnoses resulting from disease, injuries and surgeries.
Compassion for patients, pursuit of knowledge and a changing therapeutic landscape fueled her motivation to pursue a doctoral degree, Midgett said.
“I want to provide the best care to my patients,” Midgett said after completing the 2 ½-year program that, based on her tenure in the field, was not required. “Surgical interventions and treatments have changed. I want to make sure I am providing the most effective, efficient treatments based on the research that was out there.”
TPTI strongly supports the lifelong learning efforts of its entire staff, hosting monthly in-services for its entire clinical staff, offering frequent continuing education courses in its clinics with nationwide leaders in physical therapy treatments and heralding veterans like Midgett for earning her DPT after more than two decades in practice, said TPTI’s CEO Jeff Verhoef.
“There is always so much to learn,” Midgett said. “With Direct Access, we are able to function as a front line medical provider. I want to learn as much as I can so I don’t miss anything.”
Direct Access allows patients to see physical therapists without a referral from a physician. Physical therapists, like Midgett, must be Direct Access certified and understand the regulations surrounding the law.
In addition to her dedication to PT patients, Midgett enjoys sports, the beach, her family and her church.
