Birmingham, Michigan (PRWEB) January 17, 2014
According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), all women are at some risk for cervical cancer. It occurs most often in women over age 30 and each year about 12,000 women are diagnosed with cervical cancer. When the disease is found early, it is highly treatable and associated with a long survival and good quality of life.
Cervical Cancer is actually a sexually-transmitted disease caused by the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV). Certain high-risk strains of HPV are associated with genital warts in both men and women and cervical cancer in women. Sexually active females 21 and over should schedule Pap testing yearly to screen for the presence of pre-cancerous cells likely caused by the HPV virus. If you are a female over 30, HPV testing is also available. According to Jonathan Zaidan, MD, founder and physician at Women’s Excellence, “Cervical cancer is largely preventable if the pre-cancerous are caught early and treated properly”.
Women’s Excellence is now open in Birmingham, Michigan for cervical cancer screenings and other types of gynecologic and obstetric visits.
