In a recent best Indie Book competition ShelfUnbound, which features books from the US and the world at large, has named Keeper of Reign, fiction for children ten to fourteen, as a favorite in the book cover category in the literary competition. As book publishing and marketing becomes more of a challenge for both traditionally published as well as Indie authors, entrepreneurs in the book business look for innovative ways to separate their books from the competition. A book cover speaks volumes to the readers. Although the phrase "you can never tell a book by its cover," may be true yet in a world where anyone with a Word software can claim to write a tome, a professionally designed cover informs the browser that the book had passed through the same rigorous standards as its traditionally published cousins.
Emma Right, author of young adult fantasy, Keeper of Reign, Book 1 and, psychological thriller, Dead Dreams, Book 1, believes hiring editors to vet through the content and grammatical structure of a book is crucial. Ms. Right stated, "If the master authors like Stephen King, or Jerry B Jenkins, have had editors and proof readers to go over their work, what more those of us who are young to the business and craft of writing? Another pair of eyes cannot help but increase the book’s power and gives the author the advantage of a useful critique." Some authors have even been known to hire Beta readers who will give insights to the plot and character development of the story. Ms. Right stated that it certainly wouldn’t hurt to have more people reading and reviewing the work before the book is launched on Amazon or a similar retailer. She believes this was one reason why Keeper of Reign had done well in the market. ShelfUnbound has also recognized this high epic fantasy, Keeper of Reign, also a Finalist in the Reader’s Choice Awards, as a notable fiction for Children.
"As book marketing becomes more competitive," Emma Right stated, "with the vast number of available free and 99 cent books winning recognition in the form of Book Awards help propel a book ahead of its competition and gives it a heads up above the maddening crowd."
Book trailers and Pinterest pages are wonderful ways to help market a publication but book awards show the readers that the book has at least been recognized by literary professionals. Readers, too, can feel confident the book has reached a certain acceptable standard that goes beyond the free-for-all that vanity presses offer.
