IROCKE.COM, the #1 guide for discovering and watching live streaming concerts worldwide, released exclusive 2013 live stream concert industry rankings today. Live streaming concerts are live music performances digitally broadcast in real-time to audiences watching and listening on computers, tablets, and mobile devices worldwide. IROCKE rankings are based on a proprietary combination of artistic and technical criteria including live video production and distribution quality, unique use of the live stream video medium by artist and producer, and online audience engagement.
IROCKE editors rated a total of 20,356 live streamed concerts by 8,227 artists performing from 1,072 live streaming concert platforms during 2013. There was a 43% increase live streaming concert performances, a 53% increase in artists who live stream performances, and a 36% increase in live streaming concert platforms worldwide compared to 2012 when IROCKE released first-ever industry rankings.
“Live streaming concert volume increased to all-time highs during 2013. Two trends fueling this growth include a dramatic increase in brands sponsoring free, high quality live stream broadcasts of top artists and festivals, and a surge of new live stream concert video platforms offering free and ticketed performance options to artists and venues at every level,” said Karl Rogers, co-founder and CEO of IROCKE.
IROCKE named “Live On Letterman” the #1 live streaming concert series of 2013. The series, which features select musical guests from CBS’s “Late Show with David Letterman” in live webcast concerts direct from the world-famous Ed Sullivan Theater in New York City, has garnered more than 200 million views to date on CBS.com and VEVO. The series consistently offers fans inspired performances by the most popular artists combined with pristine live stream video production and distribution quality.
"We are honored that IROCKE has recognized Live On Letterman as the #1 live streaming concert series in 2013,” said Tom Lisack, Vice President, CBS Interactive and Executive Producer, Live On Letterman. “As we head into our 5th year of the series, we’re looking forward to bringing even more of today's best and most relevant artists to music fans everywhere."
Based on data compiled and analyzed by IROCKE an estimated 380 million viewers worldwide watched live streaming concerts in 2013, up 40% from 2012. Online viewership increased most notably within the electronic genre with DJs and their fans embracing the live streaming video format. Major festivals continued to expand their global online audience reach with Bonnaroo reporting an all-time live stream concert record of over 11 million views during the three day festival.
“Our team of editors noted a dramatic increase in the quality of live streamed concerts during 2013,” said Charles Walker, Head of Listings for IROCKE. “As a result, producers and platforms that simply maintained 2012 quality standards dropped a few notches in our 2013 rankings.”
