First Hull Trains appoints industry expert to lead its engineering division
(PRWEB UK) 8 January 2014 -- Jon Plowright has been appointed as First Hull Trains’ Head of Engineering.
Jon’s appointment comes after the company has invested heavily in its current fleet of trains – increasing track reliability more than five-fold in recent years.
He joins with a prestigious career in engineering, having originally started out with British Steel before moving to the then British Rail Board as a management trainee.
This came after graduating in Mechanical Engineering from Kingston University and was quickly followed by assignments that involved the setting up of freight services through the Channel Tunnel and the delivery and commissioning of the new rolling stock.
Jon has since worked for a rolling stock leasing company, freight and train operating companies.
His many roles have seen him responsible for the management of people, assets and engineering maintenance, refurbishment and modification schemes – always with service improvement and delivering excellence at the heart of all operations.
Jon joins from Network Rail where he was responsible for managing the largest passenger operator account in the country, and was an important part of the London North Eastern Route Executive Team. He brings with him a wealth of industry knowledge, which will benefit First Hull Trains in its future growth plans.
Jon said: “I am really pleased to be joining First Hull Trains. The company is continuing to deliver on its pioneering foundations and, with ambitious electrification plans on the horizon, it is a superb opportunity to be part of an industry first.
“It is a train operator that has consistently created service innovations over recent years, with a reputation for continually looking to create better and more reliable journeys for its passengers.
“First Hull Trains is a company that has made ground-breaking improvements to its fleet of trains and has created robust engineering maintenance and management programmes that are industry leading. I join a team that is in fine form and look forward to the challenge of trying to seek out and find where further improvements and advances can be made.”
Will Dunnett, Managing Director at First Hull Trains, said: “Jon comes to us with an impressive CV. He has established an enviable track record in delivering complex and high quality projects embracing a wide range of engineering solutions.
