In response to an article published by Forbes, wealth management Hobart Financial Group says self-employment opens up many doors in retirement planning.

Chris Hobart, the CEO of wealth management firm Hobart Financial Group, responds to an article published by Forbes that discusses the many retirement options available to self-employed Americans.

According to the article in Forbes titled “It’s Good To Be King! Retirement Planning For Self Employed,” many self-employed Americans are in the same retirement predicament that plagues the rest of the country. This is especially confusing since, unlike corporate workers, small business owners have terrific tax-favored retirement plans available to them, including the ability to design any pension plan they want.

The article says the government offers pension plans to the self-employed that are very similar to the plans given to government workers. These plans include benefits like forced savings, tax deductions, and tax deferral of gains. Still, these benefits go largely unclaimed. Likely, the self-employed are just unaware of the retirement plans available to them.

The article explains, “In the distant past, when it came to retirement plan options, the self-employed or members of a partnership were at a distinct disadvantage relative to corporations. Although over time, those restrictions have been removed, the perception of limited choices still lingers. That’s unfortunate because now you have plan flexibility that would make the average corporate employee turn green with envy.”

Chris Hobart, CEO of Hobart Financial Group, a leading wealth management firm, says that self-employed persons should take advantage of government pension plans. “The retirement plans offered by the government to small business owners and other self-employed persons are, without question, one of the best retirement options available to said people. It would be wise to gather as much information on government pension plans as possible if you qualify. You may very well find yourself on an easier path to retirement.”

Hobart views hidden retirement planning options such as the self-employed government pension as a reason why people should visit a retirement planning firm. “Retirement plans like this are available to many different people in many different lines of work. To those who have not yet begun retirement planning, I’d recommend speaking to a retirement planning or wealth management professional.”
