Demetri Gabriel Discusses 4 Tips on How to Stay Healthy During Flu Season
Bohemia, NY (PRWEB) January 13, 2014 -- Dr. Demetri Gabriel responds to an article published by Daily Herald on January 6th, which reports on tips to stay healthy during the flu season.
According to the Daily Herald article titled “How pros stay healthy in the cold-and-flu season,” flu season can be one of the most risky times for children to be exposed to others. The following four tips should be followed in order to avoid being infected.
• Wash Your Hands- Dr. Demetri Gabriel believes that this is the simplest tip in staying healthy. “Make sure to wash properly and wash regularly,” he says. “You’re always going to be touching something, so make sure you stay aware of what it is you’re interacting with and to keep it clean. Washing your hands with soap will always help prevent the spread of any sickness that may be contracted during one’s daily routine.”
• Eat well, drink water- “Staying hydrated is super important. Unfortunately in cold weather, you may not notice that your body needs water. Try to drink at least 100 ounces of fluids a day, preferably water, juices and tea,” Gabriel advises. “Vitamin C is something that keeps the body hydrated, in addition to having having benefits for skin, bones, and tissue.”
• Keep your distance- “Even though this is a difficult task, especially in an office, school or gym, limiting direct contact with people is key in remaining germ-free,” Gabriel explains.
• Sleep- Gabriel says getting 7-8 hours of rest a night is essential to boosting your immune system. “Flu season may be the best time for you to catch up on your sleep. It is important that your body remains well-rested in order to have the strength to fight off any bacteria and/or infections you may come in contact with.”
