Phoenix, AZ (PRWEB) January 08, 2014 -- American Quilter’s Society, the largest quilting membership organization in the world, is pleased to announce the expansion of its popular AQS QuiltWeek® event series to Phoenix, AZ. The Phoenix AQS QuiltWeek® will take place from February 5 to February 8 at the Phoenix Convention Center, 100 N 3rd St., Phoenix, AZ 85004.
More than 15,000 people will converge on the Phoenix area to enjoy four days of the best in international quilt and textile artistry. In addition, AQS QuiltWeek® will be hosting a series of workshops with some of the top talent in the quilt industry and an extensive merchant mart comprised of both local and national vendors. This year also highlights American Quilter’s Society’s 30th Anniversary, with cupcakes for the first 300 attendees on Wednesday, February 5, in celebration of three decades of providing quilters and fabric lovers with a chance to explore and enjoy the creativity of quilters from around the world.
Included in AQS QuiltWeek’s celebrated exhibits is Get Your Kicks on Route 66 featuring works from 50 artists in tribute to the landmark highway. Also on display is the Quilted in Honor traveling exhibit by Island Batik, which supports Operation Homefront, a not-for-profit organization providing financial assistance, food, repairs, and help to the families of our United States service members and wounded warriors in need. Returning from Egypt, the Stitch like an Egyptian exhibit will showcase stunning creations of appliqué. Two of the Tentmakers of Cairo will be accompanying the works, eager to meet visitors and demonstrate their amazing appliqué techniques.
Evening events feature world-renowned celebrities presenting their unique spin on fabric, quilting, and life, including dynamic sessions with award-winning quilters and authors, Jinny Beyer and Freddy Moran. AQS certified quilt appraisers will be available at the event to appraise new or antique quilts for insurance replacement or fair market values from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. There is an appraisal fee of $50 per quilt, payable at quilt check-in.
