The 2.0L EcoBoost engine combines three technologies direct injection, turbocharging and two independent variable cam timing. The Explorer offers innovative and smart features to make travel much more convenient. The available lane keeping system can help the customer keep control if they drift out of their lane. Also available are the world’s first automotive production inflatable rear safety belts. This is a top of the line safety feature. Adaptive cruise control represents a major step beyond the conventional cruise control. The sensors detect traffic slowing, the vehicle also slows down. When traffic clears the vehicle will resume at the preset speed.
Technology can make the driver’s experience much more convenient and enjoyable. SYNC with MyFord Touch is available. Simple voice commands can make phone calls, choose music, control the climate and more without taking any hands off the steering wheel or eyes off the road. Voice activated navigation is also available. This provides directions, weather forecasts, traffic updates, fuel prices, movie times and many more. Active park assist uses imaging devices and ultrasonic sensors to locate a parking space. Simply press a button and once a parking spot is found the explorer steers into place, only a few simple steps are needed by the driver. Keys can be kept in the customers pocket to gain access to the Explorer. The system can sense when the key is nearby. Once the customer is inside the Explorer all they have to do is place their foot on the brake and press the start button, then shift into gear. A rear view camera is also available on the 2014 Ford Explorers, this provides a video image on the center screen console to show the driver what is behind their vehicle. With two clicks of a button the Explorer can be started with the remote start system. The remote start system is standard on all Explorer Limited vehicles. When the vehicle is remote started even the rear defroster and heated mirrors are activated.
