Speaking to someone about biblical text often leaves them with a puzzled look on their face; The language is confusing, the culture is strange, the timeline seems odd and the laws are difficult to apply to modern times.
Author Brian A. Curtis decided to write his new book, “The Promised Land,” to help cure that confusion for the 21st century reader. He has repeatedly studied the original biblical texts in various languages since starting his theological studies in 1980.
“I found many people start reading the Bible but give up about two thirds of the way through Exodus,” Curtis said. “I want my book to help simplify the original Hebrew and Christian texts, so more people can enjoy them.”
“The Promised Land” provides a modern English translation of the period from Abraham to Joshua. It is accompanied by cultural context to help explain biblical events in a simpler fashion. Curtis has also rearranged the order of events to reflect proper chronology.
One aspect of his book Curtis is most proud of is the special section dedicated solely to God’s laws, which he has put into context for all to understand.
“My main goal is to help the word of God be more accessible allowing everyone to have a more personal connection with their creator,” Curtis said.
