The Alliance for Women in Media (AWM) is pleased to announce the formation of its newest student affiliate at the University of the Incarnate Word, San Antonio, Texas. The AWM UIW Student Affiliate was launched with the guidance and support of the San Antonio Media Alliance, an AWM professional affiliate. Expanding its reach with students is indicative of AWM’s commitment to fostering the future growth of women in the media.
“The Alliance for Women in Media is delighted to welcome the AWM UIW Student Affiliate,” said Kay Olin, AWM National Chair. “This new student‐led affiliate is a wonderful opportunity for UIW media students to increase their knowledge of the industry, make professional connections and gain an advantage when they enter the workforce.”
The AWM UIW Affiliate elected its officers, and the affiliate’s leadership incudes:
“San Antonio is a growing city with an uprising media industry,” said Dr. Joseph Lopez, Convergent Media Professor, University of the Incarnate Word. “Therefore, having a student chapter that can potentially connect students to the growing industry will benefit not only the students but also professionals in the business to promote their company to students as well as get future potential employees, which will increase their diversity within their companies.”
