Monotype is Now the Exclusive Provider of More Than 100 Typefaces from The Foundry Collection by David Quay and Freda Sack
Woburn, MA (PRWEB) January 14, 2014 -- Monotype Imaging Holdings Inc. (Nasdaq: TYPE), a leading provider of typefaces, technology and expertise for creative applications and consumer devices, is now the exclusive provider of more than 100 typefaces from The Foundry, a U.K.-based typeface design company owned and operated by typeface designers, David Quay and Freda Sack. The agreement also marks the first time that all the fonts from The Foundry are available as Web fonts and for licensing beyond traditional desktop applications.
The Foundry fonts are available as Web fonts from Monotype through Fonts.com Web Fonts or as a self-hosted option. Extended licenses are also available to use fonts in e-publications, mobile apps, server-based applications, consumer devices and other products.
“David and Freda are known for premium-quality typefaces, and their designs have been sought and used by ad agencies, businesses and design professionals across the globe,” said Allan Haley, director of words and letters at Monotype. “This agreement enables David and Freda to concentrate on what they do best – designing beautiful typefaces – while we handle all the font licensing aspects and ensure that The Foundry fonts are available for a wide range of uses.”
“We believe that our customers will truly benefit through this agreement,” said Sack. “We’re able to count on Monotype as a strong distribution partner to provide the freedom and flexibility necessary for customers to best use our typefaces. This enables us to focus on designing typefaces and growing the collection.”
The Foundry collection features a range of serif, sans serif and display typefaces available in the OpenType® format, and many of the fonts include extensive character sets with support for all Latin-based European languages, and some with support for Greek and Cyrillic. In addition, many of The Foundry fonts support OpenType typographical features such as ligatures, swash characters and small caps. Examples of typefaces in the collection include the Foundry Sans™ family, inspired by the humanistic aspects of the Stempel Garamond™ serif typeface, and the Foundry Gridnik™ design, created in conjunction with the renowned Dutch graphic designer, Wim Crouwel, based on his 1960s sketches for typewriter use.
Fonts from The Foundry are available at Fonts.com and Linotype.com as desktop and Web fonts. Linotype.com also offers the fonts for e-publications, mobile apps and server-based applications. OEMs and developers may view the fonts in Monotype’s online font catalog and license the fonts directly from Monotype.
The Foundry was established in 1989 in London by Quay and Sack, award-winning typeface designers as well as typographers, educators and lecturers. They both combine traditional and modern approaches to typeface design and implementation, having worked in every technological development of the typographic arts since hot metal. Before forming The Foundry, Quay and Sack created typefaces that can be found in the ITC, Berthold and Letraset libraries. In addition, they have designed custom typefaces for a variety of publications, corporations and signage systems.
