Abt Associates Survey to Explore Pervasiveness, Impact of Intimate Partner Violence Under New CDC Contract
Bethesda, MD (PRWEB) January 09, 2014 -- The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has awarded Abt Associates a contract worth more than $10 million to conduct a national and state level survey on the magnitude and characteristics of sexual violence, stalking and intimate partner violence. It will also measure lifetime victimization for these types of violence.
The CDC’s National Center for Injury Prevention and Control began the annual National Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence survey in 2010 to address research gaps in the fields of intimate partner violence, sexual violence and stalking.
“We are honored to support the CDC in this vital effort to better understand the extent and causes of intimate partner and sexual violence and to provide the insights that will help policymakers and the public take action to address these problems,” said Dr. Christopher Spera, vice president of Abt’s U.S. Health Division.
Abt Associates and its survey research arm Abt SRBI will conduct the survey of women and men who are 18 years of age and older to generate national and state-level estimates on the types of violence, who is most likely to experience violence and the patterns, impact and health consequences of such violence.
“Abt SRBI is pleased to bring our innovative methodology and experience with large-scale health surveys to reach this population on a sensitive topic for one of the CDC’s most important surveys,” said Dr. Scott Royal, President and CEO of Abt SRBI.
Abt Senior Associate Danielle Hunt, Ph.D., M.P.H., will serve as project director. Dianne Rucinski, Ph.D., Vice President at Abt SRBI, will serve as survey director.
