Announcement: BluesGuitar.com Releases “Blues Guitar Lesson - Blues Turnaround Lick in the Key of E - How to Play”
(PRWEB) January 12, 2014 -- The Turnaround is used many styles of music. The Blues Turnaround or V, VI, I (5-4-1) Turnaround came from the Ragtime Blues era. The cadence of the Blues Turnaround is backwards from traditional western music. The job of the Blues Turnaround is to show the listener where the chord progression ends and starts over, it does this by ending on the V (five) of the chord progression making it want to resolve back to the I (one).
“This turnaround lick maybe something a little different for you, I’m using a technique called hybrid picking, that’s where you use your pick and your fingers,” says MacLennan, “this also demonstrates something called contrary motion and that’s where you have one melody note going down and another melody going up.” Jon demonstrates the lick as follows; first he plays the open 6th string with the pick and simultaneously plays the open first string with his 3rd finger, next he plays the 4th fret of the 6th string and the 3rd fret of the 2nd string, then the open 5th string and 2nd fret of the 2nd string, next is first fret of the 5th string and 2nd string, and finally the 2nd fret of the 5th string and the 2nd string open. Jon plays he position twice as 1/8 notes before moving to the next. Guitar TAB’s for this video lesson are available at BluesGuitar.com.
