Quality Mat Company Celebrates National Mentoring Month in January
Beaumont, TX (PRWEB) January 14, 2014 -- January is National Mentoring Month, and Quality Mat would like to encourage everyone to reach out to a local organization and volunteer a few hours of their time to mentoring a child. While Quality Mat specializes in interlocking mats and ground protection mats, they also sponsor a variety of organizations in and around Southeast Texas that have a focus on mentoring.
What are some of the benefits of mentoring?
What seems like a few hours to a mentor can change a child’s life. Millions of children are in need of a mentor. In fact, the Public/Private Ventures Study of Big Brothers Big Sisters has shown that adolescents who meet regularly with their mentors are 46% less likely to begin using illegal drugs and 27% less likely to begin drinking. This study has also shown that 40% of a teenagers waking hours are spent without adult supervision.
Mentoring provides young people with a role model, companionship and so much more. It can also help children stay in school, improve a child’s self-esteem, set career goals, and understand the importance of education.

While there are many benefits for mentees, there are also a number of benefits for mentors! Every young person should have someone in his or her life, and every child is someone who matters. Mentoring can bridge generation gaps, and spending time with a mentee is an investment in the community’s future.
