Gigaom today announced its mobile conference, formerly known as Mobilize, will be renamed Structure Connect. Rounding out a trifecta of Structure conferences that includes Structure and Structure Data, Structure Connect will focus on the ubiquity of connectivity. Being held October 21-22 in San Francisco, the event will explore the Internet of Things and what it means to be connected, the role of design in user experience, and where the market is headed.
"Back in 2008 when we hosted our first mobile event, we were thrilled by the possibilities that were emerging as more people were carrying the web in their pockets," said Stacey Higginbotham, senior writer for Gigaom and chair of Structure Connect. "But smartphones were only the beginning. Connectivity is as large a disruption in business models and our way of life as the introduction of the worldwide web was."
Connectivity has created unprecedented opportunities by enabling a continual flow of data from devices to the cloud and across thousands of services linked by APIs and data stores. Gigaom Structure Connect will cover not only devices, but the underlying infrastructure that makes everything work. The event will feature conversations about the wireless network, breakthroughs in energy harvesting chips, new databases perfect for real-time processing of data, as well as as APIs and business models around data.
The brightest minds in mobile innovation will take the stage at Structure Connect to examine the business and technical opportunities arising from the explosion of connectivity. Previous speakers include:
Some of the most influential companies in big data, cloud computing and connectivity have already signed on as Structure series sponsors, including Alpine Data Labs, CenturyLink, EnterpriseWeb, Hewlett-Packard, Intel, Virtustream, WSO2.
