(PRWEB) January 16, 2014 -- --- National Whistle-Stop Train Tour Kickoff Event
--- Bi-Partisan Panel of Five New Jersey State Legislators
--- World Premiere of The Ticket, New Documentary Film about School Choice in 7 States
Choice Media invites the public to join education reform leaders and supporters from across New Jersey for a timely, important, and uplifting meeting about education reform and school choice in the Garden State. The second annual New Jersey School Choice Summit will be held on Wednesday, January 22. It also serves as the point of embarkation for the National School Choice Week cross-country whistle-stop train tour that will roll from Newark to San Francisco, making stops at 14 promotional events along the way.
The Newark Club, of Newark, NJ, will offer two events in one on January 22. The National School Choice Week Whistle-Stop Tour Kickoff comprises the first hour of the event, 8:30-9:30am and will offer a celebration of progress in the national movement. It is free to attend. The New Jersey School Choice Summit will follow the train launch, 9:30am-2:00pm. Tickets for the Summit are also free, with a suggested donation of $10-20 to cover some of the costs of the event, such as lunch. The Summit will include a luncheon, keynote address, panel discussions, and a film premiere of The Ticket, a new documentary by award-winning filmmaker Bob Bowdon.
The New Jersey School Choice Summit will be unique as the only event for the public to hear from and question a bipartisan panel of state legislators on the issues of education reform. Scheduled to appear are State Senators Tom Kean (R), Ray Lesniak (D) and Steven Oroho (R), as well as State Assemblymen Anthony Bucco, Jr. (R), and Troy Singleton (D).
The Activists Panel will include Keith Benson of the National Action Network, Victoria Jakelsky of ParentalRights.org, Mary McElroy of the Newark Archdiocese, Carlos Perez of the New Jersey Charter Schools Association and Valarie Smith of the NJ Interdistrict Public School Choice Association. There will also be a Charter School Operator panel.
The Summit will also serve as the world premiere of a new documentary film The Ticket, The Many Faces of School Choice, which profiles seven forms in school choice in seven states. It tells the story of the once separate movements of charter schools, vouchers, inter-district choice, homeschooling and online learning and how they are now converging into a singular movement known as School Choice. The film shows how the larger concept of School Choice is underpinned by the simple premise that power to individual parents is healthier than power to a bureaucracy.
The New Jersey School Choice Summit is being produced by Choice Media, a national news service and Twitter feed on issues of education reform and school choice. Choice Media also produces the Ed Reform Minute, a daily podcast on education policy, available on iTunes, Stitcher, TuneIn and other podcast distributors.
