2014 Contemporary Choir of the Year Stellar Award Nominee Larry Callahan and Selected of God Head to Nashville with Hopes of Seizing the Prize
Detroit, MI (PRWEB) January 16, 2014 -- Taking the WORD which never changes and fitting it into a world that’s ever-changing, Larry Callahan and Selected of God, a group of resilient singers has taken their “one shot” to make a major impact on the world. The popular Detroit choir earned a "Contemporary Choir of the Year" nomination for the 2014 Stellar Awards which they will be attending in Nashville Tennessee on Saturday, January 18 at the Nashville Municipal Auditorium, 417 Fourth Avenue North, at 6 p.m.
The choir will make a number of key press stops and performances during Stellar Award weekend including Urban Soul Cafe (Limelight, 201 Woodland St.) on Thursday, Feb 16, Stellar Awards Pre-Show (Tennessee Performing Arts Center, 505 Deaderick St.), Yes Lord Radio (Millennium Maxwell House Hotel, 2025 Rosa Parks Blvd.),ChoirFest (Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 7594 Old Hickory Blvd.) Friday, the Stellar Awards Red Carpet and taping of the Bobby Jones Gospel Hour.
The three time regional winners of Verizon Wireless' How Sweet the Sound have been consistent on their road to success and spreading the message of Christ through music. Their current album, The Evolution II peaked at number 4 on Billboard's Top Gospel Albums chart and has remained in the top 25 since its November 2012 release. They debuted on the Top 30 BDS Gospel Radio Chart in August 2013 at number 30, where they spent nearly 50 weeks and ranked at spot 25 in the Media Base Gospel Chart. Callahan’s SOG also made the 2013 ballot for a Grammy Award nomination in the "Best Gospel Song", "Best Contemporary Performance", and "Best Gospel Album" categories.
SOG is best known for the Emmy winning Super Bowl XLV's "Born of Fire-Importer from Detroit 200 Chrysler" commercial with Eminem. They have a completed a total of six commercials for Chrysler.
Selected of God Founder and Director, Larry Callahan has for the past few years attended the annual Stellar festivities in support of his gospel peers as a guest; this will be the group's first time as actual nominees, according to Callahan in anticipation of this occasion "This is an exciting time for us! To see what God is doing and has done is really mind-blowing...HE is truly my Dream-maker".
Selected of God has since graced some of the biggest audiences and stages in America from the 2011 Super Bowl and the Detroit Tigers vs. Yankees playoff game, to a Monday Night Football performance with soul legend Jimmy Scott. True to their roots, they have worked with world renowned Gospel artists Dr. Dorinda Clark-Cole, Donald Lawrence and Kurt Carr. They have also been featured as guest performers with Patti LaBelle, Kem, Aretha Franklin, Ron Isely and Wyclef Jean. Recently named the Ambassadors of Detroit by Chrysler, they have blazed a trail for others to follow. The choral group consists of teachers, accountants, nurses, military personnel, hairdressers, even the unemployed, are represented in this group who resemble the fabric work of our great country; ordinary people doing extraordinary things.
