New York, NY (PRWEB) January 16, 2014 -- For the 16th consecutive year, Ernst & Young LLP appears on FORTUNE magazine’s “100 Best Companies to Work For” list.

“Today, there are more than 31,000 EY people in the US and over 175,000 around the world. We are committed to creating an environment that delivers exceptional experiences that bring our people lasting career value, experiences that support their ability to serve our clients and the communities in which we live and work," says Nancy Altobello, EY Americas Vice Chair, Talent. "The exceptional EY experience means a strong foundation: learning, coaching and meaningful career conversations, as well as transformative professional experiences that help them grow, develop and lead, in business and in life.

To cultivate a truly inclusive work culture that develops future leaders, Ernst & Young LLP and the global EY organization offer a variety of practices and programs:

Career and Family Transitions coaching program, a program piloted in the Americas in December 2012 that supports women and men welcoming a new baby through birth or adoption. Due to its success, the pilot is now expanding into a long-term program expected to reach about 375 moms and dads by December 2014. EY business unit leaders nominate mid-level professionals to participate, with a 100% acceptance rate to date, including dads. The program is unique in that EY’s internal Executive Coaching team has dedicated several executive coaches to help these working parents through individual and group sessions held before and after the birth or adoption of their child. Additionally, training is offered for the EY professionals who serve as participants’ counselors both prior to their leave and focused on their return to work, which is expected to reach about 250-300 counselors by December 2014.

Global Student Experience, an internship program launched in 2011, offers overseas assignments for high-performing summer interns. Participants start their internship in the US and spend four weeks abroad at another EY member firm location within the organization’s global network, before returning to the US to complete their experience. Participants include both US students going abroad and non-US students coming into the US. In 2013, the program grew to almost 60 participants and 12 host countries, including new hosts Israel (Tel Aviv) and Australia (Perth). In addition, the China member firm, which was previously only an inbound host, sent outbound participants for the first time in 2013.

Women Athletes Global Leadership Network, a new program designed to tap into the leadership potential of elite female athletes and Olympians after their retirement from competitive sport. EY commissioned new research about the connections between sports and leadership and the effect that women’s access to and participation in sports can have on education, health and global economic development in March 2013.

Workplace of the Future, a trust-based, work-anywhere environment that combines physical workspace, technology and flexibility solutions that reflect how EY’s high performing teams work today — at the client, in the office and elsewhere. Ernst & Young LLP piloted this Workplace of the Future design that is activity-based in nature and includes a mix of areas for formal and informal collaboration, individual workplaces, and a greater investment in technology.

Building a Better Working World, includes a flexible work culture that affords people the ability to make time to volunteer. The annual EY Connect Day invites all Ernst & Young LLP offices to participate in a day of community service that resulted in more than 70,000 volunteer hours in 2013, up more than 8,500 hours from 2012. EY also offers several signature volunteer programs -- College MAP (Mentoring for Access and Persistence), the Corporate Responsibility Fellows program or the Earthwatch - EY Ambassadors expeditions -- and advocates for getting involved with not-for-profits like Boys and Girls Clubs or Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship.

Younger Managers Rise in the Ranks, a recently commissioned study on the generational shifts in the US workplace. In an effort to help quantify management shifts and provide context for managing the generational mix in light of them, EY surveyed over 1,200 cross-company professionals outside of the EY organization and across the US, including managers and non-managers in three select generations — Gen Y/millennials; Gen X; and baby boomers. The survey reveals that between 2008 and 2013 alone, 87% of Gen Y managers surveyed took on a management role vs. 38% of Gen X and 19% of baby boomer managers. By comparison, from 2003 to 2008, 12% Gen Y, 30% Gen X and 23% of boomers moved into management.

Dedication to Veterans, a first-of-its-kind fellowship program was launched in 2013 to support the Institute for Veterans and Military Families (IVMF), sending select professionals to work for IVMF pro bono for multiple months to advance work supporting veterans and their families. This program will be offered twice a year during the fall and spring by Ernst & Young LLP. IVMF develops education and employment-focused programs in collaboration with industry, government, NGOs and the veteran’s community. The organization works to address the primary economic and public policy concerns of our nation’s servicemen, servicewomen and their families. The firm is also a proud member of the 100,000 Jobs Mission, a coalition that shares a collective goal of hiring 200,000 transitioning service members and veterans by 2020. In addition to the hiring commitment, the firm also reports progress quarterly and collaborates with the 120-plus coalition members on veterans’ issues and share collective experiences.

EY and You (EYU) on Campus, an extension of EY’s world-class development framework known as EYU, which delivers the personalized learning, coaching and experiences they need to reach their career goals. This fiscal year, 4,500 college students from approximately 200 schools benefitted from this framework through EYU on Campus programs across the country. EYU on Campus helps develop students through signature events such as the Emerging Leaders Summit, the International Intern Leadership Conference and Discover EY; multi-generational forums; global mindset workshops; resume workshops; dress for success events; mock interviews; and one-on-one coaching from recruiters and client-serving professionals. In addition to helping students grow, EYU exposes them to the culture of talent development that EY fosters for its full-time professionals. Ernst & Young LLP will recruit over 12,000 professionals in the US alone in fiscal year 2014 with 7,200 professionals coming from campuses and largely representing the millennial generation.

Methodology
To pick the 100 Best Companies to Work For, FORTUNE partners with the Great Place to Work Institute to conduct the most extensive employee survey in corporate America; 257 firms participated in this year's survey. More than 252,000 employees at those companies were surveyed by the institute, a global research and consulting firm operating in 45 countries around the world. Two-thirds of a company's score is based on the results of the institute's Trust Index survey, which is sent to a random sample of employees from each company. The survey asks questions related to their attitudes about management's credibility, job satisfaction, and camaraderie. The other third is based on responses to the institute's Culture Audit, which includes detailed questions about pay and benefit programs and a series of open-ended questions about hiring practices, methods of internal communication, training, recognition programs, and diversity efforts. After evaluations are completed, if news about a company comes to light that may significantly damage employees' faith in management, we may exclude it from the list. Any company that is at least five years old and has more than 1,000 U.S. employees is eligible. The deadline for applying for next year's list is June 30, 2014. For an online nomination form, go to the Great Place to Work Institute's web site. If you have further questions about the Best Companies to Work For, please e-mail [email protected].
