Featured This Week on the Jazz Network Worldwide Bassist and Composer, Neddy Smith With His New CD ‘Mood Swing’
Norwalk, CT (PRWEB) January 17, 2014 -- Neddy Smith caught a vision, it was to create up-lifting subtle melodies filled with energy and power and caters to a new generation. The inspiration behind “Mood Swing” is derived from a spiritual source as well as Thelonious Monk’s and a poem written by Neddy entitled ‘The Little House’. Neddy hand-picked a team of musicians to create an invigorating musical flow geared toward music lovers from various cultures. The line-up of musicians were: Andrew DeNicola (Flute, Alto, Soprano, and Tenor Sax), Marcel Blanchet (drum kit on Mood Swing), Thomas Ice (keyboard: on Pretty Little Flower and The Little House), Michiro Nigishi (multi-Keyboards on Wildebeest and Mood Swing) Willy Dalton (multi-guitars played on ‘Am in Love with You) and Deborah Hawkins (keyboard on 'Am in Love with You"). Neddy’s ambition and goal is to envision a Grammy nomination by his willingness to submit the ‘Mood Swing’ project to the Recording Academy for Grammy consideration in 2014.
“2013 was a special year when I began working on the Mood Swing project. It started with freshly brewed compositions, recording, teaching and educating musicians on how to recognize the sounds found all around them. The work was inspiring, it began taking on a life of its own with its driving rhythmic and moving improvisation and expressions. This challenged the musicians to go beyond themselves, rather than stay static within just simple arpeggios of chord progressions that locks them into the same phrases each solo. I choose each musician for this CD because of their humbleness and wiliness to learn, explore and be pushed beyond their normal abilities of just reading the charts,” says Neddy.
Neddy’s early approaches to musical innovation comes from influences deep within the cultures of his native Jamaica flavored with folk songs and world-music, Afro-Caribbean, Latin, Asian, European, and American classical music from Blues to Jazz.
Neddy is a born leader when it comes to his music. His multi-faceted talents range from being a musician, producer and educator. His prior recordings, ‘Give It Up” and ‘Liberated Woman’ were the pre-cursor to the new sound of ‘Mood Swing’. Always educating his audiences on Jazz, performing different configurations of ensembles from his group “TransWave” to his duo or trio settings. He performa and records with the Eric Gail band as well as others. Extensive travel abroad allows for Neddy to bring his music to jazz festivals and events that offer educational seminars thus keeping his fans reminded of his trademarks of his funky rhythmic and melodic style as an artist.
“Mood Swing” is an extra-special musical offering to The Jazz Network Worldwide for it is seated in a way that allows the listener to find their own understanding of the music by way of the organic musical conversation being expressed” says Jaijai Jackson, creator of The Jazz Network Worldwide.
The CD was recorded in Norwalk, CT at NedGJean International Inc., Studio. The mixing engineering was solely the work of Ben (Benjamin. J Arrindell) at Sound Clash Studios, New York City. The mastering by Sound Lab at Disc Makers, New Jersey.
