To account for its growing managed services business, NetGain Technologies contributed to the skills of the local workforce in 2013 by investing in its team of remote systems engineers (RSE). Last year alone, their RSE team increased their amount of technical certifications from vendors such as Microsoft, Cisco, HP and EMC by 189 percent; almost tripling the number from the previous year.
While this provides a boost to the regional workforce skill set, it also creates a competitive advantage over low cost and overseas technology service providers, which was the primary driver for this initiative.
“Many of our clients would rather pay a little more to solve their IT problems faster. They also like the fact that their money stays in the community,” says Bret Anderson, NetGain Technologies’ vice president of marketing and development.
NetGain Technologies has invested in their team so they can provide tier 1 and 2 helpdesk support for their Technology OneSource clients. The advantage to this strategy is that in addition to basic helpdesk support functions, the team can often solve more complex problems over the phone without having to escalate to senior systems engineers. This saves clients valuable time and minimize aggravation.

Over the course of 2013, the engineers passed multiple intensive exams to receive their certificates, bringing their total to 36 as a team. The amount of credential achievement is unprecedented within the company.
