Christie Charms Revelers at New Year Countdown Party at the Shanghai Bund for the Third Consecutive Year
Shanghai, China (PRWEB) January 20, 2014 -- Christie’s visual solutions created the largest project mapping in China on the eve of 2014. The whole projection was achieved by using 30 Christie® projectors. The live countdown was sponsored by the Shanghai Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China, Shanghai Municipal Government and supported by the Shanghai Media Group. The total projection area covered more than 96,000 square feet (9,000 square meters), ranging from the side of Shanghai Pudong Development Bank to the site of the Countdown Party about 230 feet (70 meters) from the Customs House, which presented a splendid visual feast to audiences around the world.
The colorful displays captured the lively rhythm of Shanghai, while the tetris-themed visuals embodied the new generation as well as the vitality brought upon by the foreign culture to the city. At the same time, the Chinese Art Museum of Shanghai, St Paul’s Cathedral of Macao and the Bank of China Tower in Hong Kong represented China’s three most influential cities in the world and their vibrancy. The “Jiaolong deep-sea research submersible” and “Chang’e (lunar goddess) spacecraft” segments showcased the achievements of China in recent years. When the 3-D “I Love Shanghai” emerged, the enthusiastic crowd counted down to the arrival of 2014. The entire projection mapping was a well-orchestrated and dynamic visual experience.
“The lively rhythm of Shanghai and its connection with the world was the main highlight of this projection display. As the last two projection countdowns successfully attracted worldwide attention, we decided to raise the bar this year by enhancing the projection mapping to a new level. ‘I Love Shanghai’ continues to be the consistent theme of the Bund Countdown Party where all people can participate in the event to usher in the New Year,” said Sha Xiaolan, chief lighting and projection director for the 2014 Bund Countdown Party. “The clarity and brightness mapped by the large-scale projectors is critical. Thanks to the visual solutions provided by Christie, the results of the show far exceeded our expectations."
According to Sha’s observations, projection technologies have continuously penetrated into people's daily lives in recent years such as the opening ceremony of the Beijing sporting event and the World Expo in Shanghai, both of which left a deep impression and resonated well with audiences.
“The Bund is famous for its historic buildings with diverse architectural styles. Projecting visuals on these Art Deco buildings with their intricate yet irregular contours poses a major challenge. In order to overcome this challenge, we adopted edge-blending using Christie’s excellent blending competencies,” added Sha.
Yu Lin, vice president, Christie Asia Pacific, said: “This is the third year that Christie has participated in the Bund Countdown Party. It also marks the third time that we have achieved the largest outdoor projection mapping in China. We’re glad to share the arrival of the New Year by presenting a visual treat at the Bund with the people and visitors of Shanghai at the countdown party.”
