Explore Tibet, a Lhasa-based tour company, is offering a multi-experiences Kailash tour to the region. The 6-day tour includes a trip to Tibet’s capital, Lhasa, as well as rafting, trekking and horse riding in the mountains.

“This trip collects all the best possible cultural interactions with locals,” Explore Tibet have said, “as well as striking experiences on the high plateau within a short period.”

Lhasa, capital of Tibet, with an elevation of 3,490 m, is one of the highest cities in the world. Enjoying almost 3,000 hours of sunlight every year, and thus sometimes called “the sunlit city” by Tibetans, the city contains many culturally significant Tibetan Buddhist sites, including Potala Palace and Jokhang Temple, which are both UNESCO World Heritage sites.

The Barkhor is an area of narrow streets and an old square in the old part of Lhasa located around Jokhang Temple. For many Tibetans, Jokhang is the most sacred and important temple in Tibet, and has remained a key centre of Buddhist pilgrimages for centuries.

Travellers will also spend a day whitewater rafting on Tolung River. The Tolung Chu is a fun whitewater adventure only 1 hour from Lhasa. It is a perfect introduction to whitewater rafting in Tibet. You do not have to be able to swim, but it is recommended that you are physically fit and have acclimatized in Lhasa for a few days as you will be required to paddle and move around the raft. This is our most popular trip for those that only have a short time in Lhasa.

On the penultimate day of the tour, travellers will go horseriding and hiking in the Drowolong Valley. “You may visit nomad tents in the valley if they haven’t moved for the season, then hike back to the village and have lunch in a local family house.”

Explore Tibet is a locally-owned travel agency committed to responsible tourism, Tibetan travel permit and sustainable practice.
