Owner Dan Yudin believes that Austin “needed an inspirational environment in which people could accomplish their goals which included both a fitness and social setting." Dan’s fitness trek began in 2000 when, along with his business partner, he created Powerhouse Gym, at 5th and Lamar. After opening its doors in 2000, it was recognized with several prestigious awards including one of the top 10 fitness centers in the country along with several local awards including best gym in both Austin and in Texas. At the time, there were 350 Powerhouse Gyms in the world.
The name Powerhouse Gym was soon replaced with a new name that people would recognize as a home grown Austin Business, Pure Austin Fitness. Pure Austin Fitness also received several local and state awards along with editorial coverage in the Wall Street Journal and in Continental Airlines In-Flight magazine. It became known as “the gym” in Austin. In 2004, the second location for Pure Austin fitness was born in North Austin. In 2007, Dan sold his interest in Pure Austin. Now, Spark Fitness Club has emerged as Dan’s latest fitness venture.
