White Collar Criminal Defense Attorney W. James Payne Reappointed to Quadruple Homicide Retrial
Columbus County, North Carolina (PRWEB) January 18, 2014 -- White Collar Criminal Defense Attorney W. James Payne was reappointed the week of January 13, 2014, to be lead counsel on the retrial of Danny Thomas; 06 CrS 6520,51,58, 6264, et al. Danny Thomas, convicted on May 18, 2011, of the first degree murders of four individuals in Columbus County, North Carolina, won a new trial by a unanimous decision of the North Carolina Court of Appeals on October 15, 2013. At trial, Mr. Thomas’s lawyer, Attorney Payne, asked the Court to allow the Defendant to remove a juror. The Court of Appeals affirmed Attorney Payne’s right to do so and reversed the entire conviction of the Defendant, ordering a new trial. Payne said: “We look forward to vigorously defending this man’s right to a fair trial.”
