White Collar Criminal Defense Attorney W. James Payne was reappointed the week of January 13, 2014, to be lead counsel on the retrial of Danny Thomas. Danny Thomas, convicted on May 18, 2011, of the first degree murders of four individuals in Columbus County, North Carolina, won a new trial by a unanimous decision of the North Carolina Court of Appeals on October 15, 2013.

White Collar Criminal Defense Attorney W. James Payne was reappointed the week of January 13, 2014, to be lead counsel on the retrial of Danny Thomas; 06 CrS 6520,51,58, 6264, et al. Danny Thomas, convicted on May 18, 2011, of the first degree murders of four individuals in Columbus County, North Carolina, won a new trial by a unanimous decision of the North Carolina Court of Appeals on October 15, 2013. At trial, Mr. Thomas’s lawyer, Attorney Payne, asked the Court to allow the Defendant to remove a juror. The Court of Appeals affirmed Attorney Payne’s right to do so and reversed the entire conviction of the Defendant, ordering a new trial. Payne said: “We look forward to vigorously defending this man’s right to a fair trial.”
