Julian Omidi and Michael Omidi Help Send Water Wishes to Aid Hurricane Victims in the Philippines
(PRWEB) January 16, 2014 -- No More Poverty and cofounders Julian Omidi and Dr. Michael Omidi are new supporters of Water Wishes, a charity that provides people in need with an innovative filtration system that filters bacteria and viruses out of unclean water. One filter and two buckets can provide a six-person family with clean water for up to one year. According to the United Nations unclean water is responsible for the deaths of nearly two million children every year. Many chronic and deadly illnesses result from unclean water, including cholera, and relentless diarrhea and fever.
“Many people know that I have a very special place in my heart for the Filipino people,” said Dr. Michael Omidi, cofounder of No More Poverty. “I’ve visited the country several times, twice with medical mission teams working in conjunction with our charity partner CES7. The ravages of Super Typhoon Haiyan are extensive and heart-breaking. I’m pleased we have been able to partner with Water Wishes to save lives and provide aid to the hurting people of the Philippines.”
In early December, Water Wishes shipped 10,000 water filters with roughly 5,000 buckets, and 200 emergency kits to provide needed aid to survivors of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines islands. Partners in the area will distribute the filters and kits to the area of Cebu and to remote island areas that have not yet received aid. Each filter system requires two buckets and the organization is in need of 15,000 more buckets. The No More Poverty support will go towards the bucket drive that Water Wishes is conducting to complete the filtration systems already on their way to the Philippines.
On November 8, 2013, Super Typhoon Haiyan, one of the strongest ever to hit land, left more than 6,000 people dead and nearly 2,000 others missing in the country of the Philippines. In December, the United Nations launched a global multi-million dollar call for aid to take care of the needs of the survivors over the next 12 months.

The goal of the non-profit organization is to provide low cost water filtration systems that can substantially change the quality of life. Many water well programs are expensive and ineffective. The filters provided by Water Wishes uses the latest technology that offers a unique and cost effective way to filter water. The system’s mobility also allows for increased flexibility during disaster relief and aid. Water Wishes concentrates its efforts on impoverished regions and areas in need of disaster relief throughout the United States and the world. Recently completed projects have been in Nicaragua, Kenya, Uganda, and Congo with future projects in development.
