Maui Mastermind, a community of successful entrepreneurs helping business owners, honored two companies for outstanding sales increases in the past fiscal year.

Marge and Brian Thomson’s company, L.H. Thomson Co. in Macon, Georgia, increased their sales by $2.5 million in the fiscal year ended Sept. 30, 2013.

Brian’s father, who passed away six years ago, founded the company, which originally made aircraft parts. Last year, the company focused on bicycle components. Brian’s mother, Marge, said, that was the key to the huge increase in sales, along with help from Maui Mastermind.

“We didn’t think we would win an award,” Brian said. “We’re very surprised and happy,” Marge said. “We really needed a business coach; it was important to have a good team,” Brian said. He said Maui Mastermind helped the company decide how to pick a team for the 93-employee company, which received the Maui Mastermind Award for Excellence.

The other Maui Mastermind award winner is Jennifer Lyle, senior executive at Software Testing Solutions LLC, a Tucson-based medical software company, which saw an almost 90 percent increase in sales in the past fiscal year. Lyle said Maui Mastermind’s coaching was the key in her company’s $1 million sales increase boost. STS received the Award for Sales and Profit Increase.

“I won a contest about five years ago and the prize was a membership in Maui Mastermind,” she said. Using David Finkel’s business advice, Lyle said she was able to get more from her eight-member company team and only had to hire one additional employee during her huge sales increase period.

“We are pleased to see consistent growth by our clients,” said Finkel, founder of Maui Mastermind. “Honoring Marge and Brian Thomson, Jennifer Lyle and others I have had the opportunity to personally get to know and work with these past few years has been rewarding.”

Finkel said the Maui community of business owners consistently excels and goes beyond traditional definitions of only one bottom line.

Maui Mastermind gives business owners a road map to build a business they can one day sell, scale, or own passively. It connects business owners with a network of experts and an upgraded peer group. The bottom line is Maui Mastermind helps business owners build a business, not a job.

During the past 20 years, the Maui advisers have created, launched, scaled and sold more than $2 billion of businesses.

The awards were presented at San Diego’s Paradise Point Resort and Spa.
