Garappolo, Westbrooks Earn Outstanding Player Honors at 89th East-West Shrine Game
St. Petersburg, FL (PRWEB) January 20, 2014 -- In front of more than 19,500 fans at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, the East all-star team beat the West 23-13 in a game that featured standout performances on both sides of the ball.
The William H Coffman Award for Most Outstanding Offensive Player was awarded to Eastern Illinois Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo who was 9-for-14 for 100 yards and one touchdown. Garoppolo entered the game in the second quarter and led the East all-stars on a 66-yard touchdown drive in just 51 seconds in the final minute of the half.
The E. Jack Spaulding Award for Most Outstanding Defensive Player went to West Texas A&M defensive lineman Ethan Westbrooks who led the game with 2 sacks. He also had a pair of solo tackles and an assist, including one tackle for loss. He also caused a fumble on one of his sacks, but it was recovered by the West all-stars.
