Now in our 10th year, I give thanks for the growth and success of this amazing program, and for all the staff, families and children who have made it possible.

As an innovative wilderness therapy program located on the Big Island of Hawaii, Pacific Quest was founded in 2004 by Mike and Suzanne McKinney and Chris Kaiser in an effort to provide a different approach to traditional outdoor programs for troubled teens. Suzanne McKinney comments, “We wanted a place with a family-based culture and an incredibly welcoming environment; a place where children could heal themselves safely and powerfully.”

The founders of Pacific Quest built a rural campus on seven acres of pristine farmland, and quickly discovered how organic gardening and traditional Hawaiian sustainable agriculture provided the focus, depth and meaningful activities to support the foundation for the Pacific Quest program. McKinney adds, “We have created a unique place that inspires and enables struggling teens and young adults to realize their full potential; a place that offers young people and their families hope, unconditional support, and a chance for a new life.”

In 2011, Pacific Quest was named the Big Island’s top small business by the Small Business Administration and was recognized for job creation, growth in annual revenue, innovation, staying power and contributions to the community. Noted for their respectful approach, creative programming, clinical expertise and inspiring setting, Pacific Quest outdoor therapy program provides a great fit for adolescents and young adults in need of mental health services and independent living skills. McKinney further adds, “I am overwhelmed by the hard work and dedication so many have put into Pacific Quest. Now in our 10th year, I give thanks for the growth and success of this amazing program, and for all the staff, families and children who have made it possible.”
