I believe IJI will continue to do what it has done for the last decade – providing great leadership, and working with clients to realise the value of such revolutionary innovation – and I am thrilled to be a part of that.

Ivar Jacobson International (IJI) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Richard Soley to the Board of Directors as a Non-executive Director with immediate effect.

Dr Soley is Chairman and CEO of OMG, where he is responsible for the vision and direction of the world's largest consortium of its type. He joined the nascent OMG as Technical Director in 1989, leading the development of OMG's world-leading standardization process and the original CORBA® specification. In 1996, he led the effort to move into vertical market standards and modeling, leading first to the Unified Modeling Language TM (UML®) and later the Model Driven Architecture® (MDA®). He also led the effort to establish the SOA Consortium in January 2007, leading to the launch of the Business Ecology Initiative (BEI) in 2009. In addition, Dr. Soley is the Executive Director of the Cloud Standards Customer Council, helping end-users transition to cloud computing and direct requirements and priorities for cloud standards throughout the industry.

Dr. Soley also serves on numerous industrial, technical and academic conference program committees, and speaks all over the world on issues relevant to standards, the adoption of new technology and creating successful companies. He is an active angel investor, and was involved in the creation of both the Eclipse Foundation and Open Health Tools.

In 2009 Dr Soley was one of the three founders of SEMAT (http://www.semat.org) an initiative that sets out to refound software engineering, and a core belief for Ivar Jacobson International's vision.

"As we look to take advantage of this unprecedented opportunity presented to us by SEMAT, IJI needs to listen to more external perspectives, build out its network in the software industry and take advantage of more strategic thinking. Richard is the perfect choice for an external appointment to the Board of IJI given his pedigree and activity in this space. His many years of working in the software industry and building organisations such as OMG will be of great value to us going forward", said Dr Ivar Jacobson, Chairman of the Board of IJI.

Dr Soley said, "I have followed Ivar's work for thirty years and have developed a huge respect for his achievements and goals for the software industry. In that time we've also become good friends. I am delighted to be able to strengthen my support for SEMAT by joining a company that believes so thoroughly in the initiative. I believe IJI will continue to do what it has done for the last decade – providing great leadership, and working with clients to realise the value of such revolutionary innovation – and I am thrilled to be a part of that."

A native of Baltimore, Maryland, U.S.A., Dr. Soley holds Bachelor's, Master's and Doctoral degrees in Computer Science and Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
