Film 4 Change, a film and festival production company dedicated to bringing communities together through the power of story and positive social change, has opened an office in The Film School at Santa Fe University of Art and Design (SFUAD). Film 4 Change joins other industry tenants Midthunder Casting, the high-end animation firm Cosmic Forces, and the creative agency 12FPS.

Film 4 Change is partnering with the Film School and has already begun working closely with SFUAD film students, offering them professional opportunities such as helping to organize film festival strategy for short films; editing and developing projects from script to screen; and film publicity, marketing, distribution and screening.

“The students here have been fantastic, and I love the diversity of both the domestic and international interns,” said Rich Henrich, executive director of Film 4 Change. “One of our interns, Priscila [Torres], is from El Salvador. It’s wonderful that she came to Santa Fe to study film because she has stories she wants to tell, including stories from her country.”

Henrich has previously taught screenwriting at SFUAD, as well as courses in film production and entrepreneurship for artists at other universities in New Mexico, Arizona and California. He is the founder and programmer for the Albuquerque Film Festival and the founder and director of AMFM Fest in California, and he serves as advisor and programmer to the Durango Independent Film Festival.

“We’re excited to have Rich back on campus in a more permanent way with the new Film 4 Change office,” said Paula Amanda, associate chair of The Film School at SFUAD and director of Garson Studios. “He brings a wealth of film festival expertise and opens doors for our film students to be exposed to this side of the industry.”

In 2013, several SFUAD students had the opportunity to screen their short films at AMFM Fest, and Henrich said he’s looking to broaden opportunities for students across creative media to incorporate more art, music, photography and graphic design into the growing festival.

“My passion is more than just directing the day-to-day production of festivals, but being there as a resource for students—helping them develop and exposing them to larger market opportunities,” said Henrich.
